James holds up God’s word like a mirror and asks whether listeners will put what they hear into practice. The song brings faith into speech, plans, treatment of the poor, and patient endurance. Its refrain asks Jesus, the Lord of glory, to give faith hands and love feet. Mercy becomes visible when the good we profess is also the good we do.
