Jonah runs from the call to Nineveh because he does not want mercy to reach people he dislikes. The sea, the great fish, and the city’s repentance reveal more than a prophet’s escape; they expose his reluctant heart. The song asks Jesus, greater than Jonah, to make the mercy we receive flow outward. Its question remains personal: for whom do we struggle to desire compassion?
